The Short Story highlighted racism in its ways of how it affected society. Once Upon a Time also showed how negative emotions such as paranoia will only cause self destruction. Overall this activity went well. I was able to understand the story, as well and interpret it in different ways. My strengths in story analysis are being able to determine the themes within the plot and connecting the story with outside issues. 

 The immoral treatment of gays within Russia has caused the world to stop and consider the possible outcome of the future Winter Olympics. The situation of alienating a specific group of people during the Olympic games is easily comparable to the racisms towards Jews in the 1936 Berlin Olympic Games. Again, the participating nations in the games have the option to boycott the choice of location, and replace the games in to a country where all people no matter who they are, can participate and be treated equally. The Sochi Olympics should be cancelled to set an example of our worlds standards. We need to show that there is no tolerance for homophobia; everyone is equal no matter his or her lifestyle choice. Everyone has their own sets of beliefs, and that is okay. It is not okay though, when these beliefs limit other people in doing what they love and being who they truly are. Which is exactly what is happening by the homophobia within Russia.

Knowing that there is a serious homophobia issue in Russia, the nations are forced to reconsider the choice of location for the winter games. This time, the participants of the 2014 Sochi Olympics should look to their history and consider choosing a safer location. At the moment, Dmitry Medvedev has instituted similar discriminative laws towards gays as Hitler placed upon Jews during the Berlin Olympics. During the Berlin Olympics, many athletes were victimized and could not safely participate in their events; how will we know history won’t repeat itself and the Olympics will again be an unsafe place to compete? Not only athletes, but also gay spectators hoping to support their nation will be forced to be living in fear of Russian homophobia.  The Olympics should be placed in a country where all athletes will be treated fairly. The upcoming Olympics should be in a safe environment where the nations of our world can fairly compete and be proud to represent their country.
